So you've put a lot of work into your dog's leash manners... What happens when someone else needs to walk them?

Whether you work long hours and need the occasional help of a dog walker, or you leave your dog with family when you're on vacation, it's inevitable that another person will have to handle your dog at one point or another. What's the best way to ensure that your training is preserved?

Here are a few options:

1. Involve all potential handlers in training! Completing in-person training with us? Have your dog walker, family member, neighbor, etc. join in a lesson or group class. We are always happy to onboard new handlers and make sure everyone is on the same page.

2. Change up the tools! If the person who will be handling your dog is uncomfortable using certain tools or doesn't have time to learn them fully, put your dog on a harness and allow them to pull. This will preserve your dog's response to leash pressure applied to their neck.

3. Board with us! All KeenDog clients have access to our exclusive boarding services. Not only will your dog's training be preserved, but our trainers are always happy to work on new skills as well as troubleshoot any sticking points. If you're local to the Charlotte / Fort Mill area, but have completed training with another balanced trainer, we're always happy to do an in-person assessment and decide whether KeenDog boarding is a good fit for your dog(s).

When you invest in your dog's training, it only makes sense that you would want to preserve it to the best of your ability. Keeping these tips in mind will help maintain clarity and clear expectations, ensuring your training stays fresh even when multiple handlers are involved!
